SUMMARY
Africa holds significant reserves of the critical raw materials required for the global energy transition, yet much of their economic value is created after these resources leave the continent. This factsheet examines how African countries can retain more value from their mineral resources through processing, manufacturing and stronger participation in regional and global value chains. It reviews major African initiatives supporting resource-based industrialisation, including the Africa Mining Vision, AfCFTA and emerging green-minerals strategies, and uses the Lobito Corridor as a case study. It highlights regional collaboration as an important pathway for strengthening negotiating power, sharing value chains and creating the scale needed for investment and manufacturing.
